Pakistan won the second match in a row in the World Cup
Pakistan is batting against Sri Lanka in the eighth match of the ICC World Cup.
Sri Lanka's target of 345 runs was achieved by Pakistan in 48.2 overs for the loss of 4 wickets thanks to the centuries of Muhammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafiq.
The start of Pakistan's innings against Sri Lanka was very disappointing. Pakistan's first wicket fell for 16 and the second for 37 runs. Opener Imam-ul-Haq was out for 12 runs and captain Babar Azam was out for 10 runs.
Abdullah Shafiq and Muhammad Rizwan supported the team after two wickets fell early. A partnership of 178 runs was established between the two for the third wicket. Later, Abdullah Shafiq was dismissed after scoring 115 runs. It was his first century in ODIs.
Saud Shakeel returned to the pavilion after scoring 31 runs at a total score of 308 in the 45th over.
In the eighth match of the ICC World Cup played at the Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad, Sri Lanka batted first and scored 344 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. This is the highest score by any team against Pakistan in a World Cup match.
Earlier, the highest score against Pakistan in the World Cup was 336 runs which was scored by India in 2019.
Sri Lanka's first wicket against Pakistan fell for 5 runs in the second over as opener Kaushal Perera returned to the pavilion for zero.
On the second wicket, Patham Nissanka and Kaushal Perera put on a partnership of 102 runs, but Nissanka was dismissed for 51 runs. Kaushal Mendes was dismissed after playing an aggressive innings of 122 with the help of 14 fours and 6 sixes.
Among the other players, Dhananjaya de Silva 25 while Charith Asalinka proved to be a one-run visitor. Dasan Shanaka was out for 12, Dinoth Velalge for 10 and Mahesh Thiekshana for zero. Mathisha Pathirana scored one run and remained not out.
Hasan Ali proved to be the successful bowler from Pakistan by taking 4 wickets, Haris Rauf took 2 bowlers to the pavilion. Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan took one wicket each.
Earlier, Sri Lankan captain Dasan Shanaka won the toss and decided to bat first. He said that he will try to increase the pressure on setting a big target against Pakistan. He is determined to get the first victory in the event.
On this occasion, the captain of the national team, Babar Azam, said that they want to maintain the winning streak with success in the match.
Both the teams have made one change each, with Sri Lanka replacing Kisan Rajitha with Mahesh Thiekshana while Pakistan replacing Fakhar Zaman with Abdullah Shafiq in the playing XI.
The two teams have previously faced each other 7 times in World Cup internationals, where Pakistan has the upper hand, with the Green Shirts leading the Islanders 0-7.
