7 Warning Signs of Dengue Fever
The recovery phase of dengue fever
What are dengue's symptoms? Even if you haven't had dengue before, you may be familiar with what it looks like in others, as the telltale signs of fever, headache, and joint pain are common among other viral illnesses such as influenza and the common cold. Still, dengue can be very different from those infections, so if you’re experiencing any of these early symptoms of dengue, you should see a doctor right away.
1) Severe headaches
Dengue is a viral disease that can cause fevers, severe headaches, and pain behind the eyes. It's transmitted by mosquito bites and typically lasts for about five to seven days.
2) Body aches/pain
One of the earliest and most prominent symptoms of dengue fever is body aches and pain. These usually affect just one side, though in some cases, both sides may be affected.
3) Fatigue
Fatigue is a common symptom of dengue fever that usually appears about a week after the initial infection. Other symptoms include severe headache and body aches, nausea and vomiting, rashes, and joint pain. Although dengue fever can be treated, it can also develop into the more dangerous dengue hemorrhagic fever if left untreated. When the patient shows any sign or symptom of DHF, they should immediately seek medical care to have their symptoms assessed.
4) Irritability
Dengue fever is transmitted to humans by the bite of an Aedes mosquito infected with the dengue virus. It isn't infectious from one individual to another. The severity ranges from influenza-like illness to dengue hemorrhagic fever, in which uncontrolled bleeding may be the most serious symptom.
Dengue fever typically begins abruptly within 4 days (range 2-14) after exposure, but some people do not experience any symptoms and may be unaware they were infected.
5) Vomiting/Diarrhea
The sudden onset of fever, vomiting, and/or diarrhea may be the first few symptoms of dengue. Less common symptoms include a skin rash, pain behind the eyes, muscle or joint pain, and flu-like symptoms. It's important to realize that dengue can be fatal if left untreated. The only way to make sure you're not infected is through a blood test or antibody test done by your doctor.
6) Abdominal pain
What are the symptoms of dengue? The symptoms include fever, headache, joint pain, vomiting, and muscle and bone aches. If you're wondering whether or not you have dengue, here are some other common indicators: 1. Aching muscles 2. Swollen ankles 3. Headache 4.
7) Swollen limbs/joints
Dengue fever can result in swollen limbs, joints, and face as well. Other early symptoms of dengue are high fever and headache. If you're at risk for contracting dengue, it's important to be aware of the early symptoms so you can get treatment fast.
